The D and N trains are among the worst-performing lines in the NYC subway system. Our commuters deserve better, and the data proves it.

What We Will Do

Upgrade signals and accelerate replacement of aging cars on both the D and N lines.

Equipment and infrastructure failures caused 31% of all NYC subway delays in 2024, up from 24% the year before, and major incidents caused by car failures nearly tripled in the first half of 2025 alone. The N train had the most major incidents of any line in the city in 2024 (63 total); the D train ran on time only 72.7% of the time, the 5th worst in the system. Some cars on both lines are over 40 years old. The L train, after receiving modern signals and new cars, now runs on time 91.9% of the time. We will use NYS Comptroller Report 10-2026 to demand action.

Install elevators at D and N train stations that meet two key criteria: high ridership and location in a gap between accessible stations.

Only 26% of Brooklyn’s 170 subway stations are ADA accessible, compared to 44% in Manhattan. The MTA’s own capital plan sets a goal that no rider should ever be more than two stops away from an accessible station, yet entire stretches of the D and N lines in South Brooklyn violate that standard today. With 22% of our seniors living in poverty, inaccessible stations are a direct barrier to medical appointments, social services, and daily independence.
